Garlic knots are a delightful twist on traditional bread that bring a burst of flavor to any meal. These soft, chewy bites are made from simple ingredients, yet pack a punch with their aromatic garlic oil coating. Perfect as an appetizer, side dish, or even a snack, garlic knots are incredibly versatile and easy to whip up at home. The process of knotting the dough adds a fun touch, making them a great activity to enjoy with family or friends. With a golden-brown exterior and a fluffy interior, these knots are sure to impress anyone at your dinner table. Serve them warm and watch them disappear in no time!

Ingredients:

**For the Dough:**

- 3 ½ to 4 cups of flour (we recommend bread flour, but all-purpose or whole wheat can also work – refer to the post for more information)

- 1 packet of instant yeast

- 1 teaspoon of salt

- 1 ½ cups of dairy-free milk (oat milk is our favorite, but any mild-flavored dairy alternative will suffice)

- ¼ cup of maple syrup (check the post for alternative sweetener suggestions)

**For the Garlic Oil:**

- 4 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil

- 1 tablespoon of minced garlic

- 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning

- ½ teaspoon of garlic powder

- ¼ teaspoon of salt

- ¼ teaspoon of black pepper

Instructions:

**Preparing the Dough:**

1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 ½ cups of flour, instant yeast, and salt, whisking well.

2. Pour in the dairy-free milk and maple syrup, then use a spatula to fold the mixture together until it is mostly combined. If the dough feels too sticky, add a little extra flour to help form a cohesive ball.

3. Once the dough ball is formed, lightly grease the same mixing bowl and place the dough back inside.

4. Cover the bowl with a towel or plastic wrap and let it rest in a warm, draft-free area for 60-90 minutes, or until it has doubled in size.

5. After the dough has risen, you can use it to create various sweet or savory dishes. More ideas can be found in the post.

**Shaping the Knots:**

1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

2. On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a rectangle, approximately 11x17 inches.

3. Cut the dough in half lengthwise, then slice into 2-inch-wide strips vertically, yielding about 20 pieces of dough.

4. Take each piece and roll it into a rope about 5 inches long, then tie it into a simple knot. If the rope becomes too long, you can double knot it.

5. Tuck the ends of the knot underneath and place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

6. Continue this process with the remaining pieces of dough.

7. Brush the garlic oil mixture generously over the knots.

8. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until they are golden brown.

9. Once out of the oven, brush with any leftover garlic oil mixture.

10. Serve and enjoy!

The recipe provided yields approximately 20 garlic knots, assuming you cut the dough into 2-inch strips as specified.
